Joe Kals

35 years ago Joe Kals was in a motorcycle accident that changed his life; as he puts it, “on June 5th, 1982 at 2 pm … my life shifted into what felt like another dimension. Perhaps a dimension that I would not have had to experience if it was not for my motorcycle accident at the age of 21, which completely severed my spinal cord at Thoracic 12 and Lumber 1.”

Joe is a paraplegic, with no feeling below his hips - and he’s walking 3,355 miles across America to raise awareness and fund a Cure for Paraplegia with Joekalsusa2018

Justin, who has an incomplete T-12 spinal cord injury, knows Joe from an online spinal cord injury group. When we found out that Joe and his wife were living in Tampa (just two odd hours away from our Florida home base), we set up a time to meet.

You can find more photos of Joe, and our full story, here.

Pups on SUPs!

While kayaking on the Santa Fe river earlier this week, we discovered a collection of dogs far more talented than us. For those of you with pups, have you ever taken them stand up paddling before? We must know more - what are the secrets of dogs on boards?

(Our camper cats have had their fair share of adventures, but neither cat is up for this!)

Gator Wrestling

An alligator is 90% muscle. By his own admission, Zach is 90% tequila.

We went to Gatorland Orlando to see Zach wrestle an alligator - and we weren’t disappointed. With a history of conservation and education, Gatorland is home to over 3,000 alligators and a whole lot of “real Florida” and redneck pride.
